Ever since my trip to France in 2009, I became a shameless Francophile – I love just about everything French – art, culture, architecture, language, fashion and most of all – FOOD – particularly the baked goods. First, there were the Macarons – those delicious beauties had my heart the first time I laid my eyes on them. During my second trip to France, I found something else just as addicting – canelés. I had it for the first time when it was included as one of the the Petite Fours at the end of a dinner. I was instantly hooked and it was obvious that I needed to find me a canelés supplier upon my return. Unfortunately, I had no luck finding canelés in San Diego (if any of you know of a place, please let me know!)….so I took it upon myself to reproduce these decadent treats. With the power of Google, I was able to find this detailed recipe that seems promising. Anyway, the process is rather tedious and time consuming but the results are rewarding! Here’s my first attempt:

Caramel-y and crunchy exterior and a moist, creamy custard interior. The texture is to die for. What remains to be desired is the coloring on top of my canelé. I am not too sure why it did not brown on the top. I guess what this means is that I need to try this several more times!

I HAD to start this post with pictures because Skylar deserves the SPOTLIGHT. Not only is she cute as a button, she’s also a natural super model. For nearly 2 hours she rocked the photoshoot like a champ! Look to the left, reach to the right, crawl, crawl, crawl, look back, smile! I ADORE her. More to come soon!

Sign me up any day to photograph a beach wedding. I do love me some intimate, relaxed and classy vibe that the beach has to offer. Plus I get to have sand between my toes while I work. HOW do you beat that. It really was such a treat to photograph Sally and Paul’s wedding at the La Jolla Shores Hotel.  They were both so relaxed with each other yet excited to kick start their new beginning; it was like they knew each other before they met and when they did, they can’t wait to start sharing their lives with each other. I love this wedding to pieces!

Everything was BEAUTIFULLY organized by Melissa Barrad.
